Glastonbury 2010

Loads of great bands, both small and amazingly big. my highlights included Seasick Steve, Stevie Wonder, Slash, Keane, Scissor Sisters, Faithless, Stornoway, Muse and La Roux.. but there were many many more!

Most people remembered changes to guitar lessons, back to normal times this week! :)

BBC Question Time

I was in the audience of question time, thursday 17 June 2010!
Needless to say it's quite difficult to get your question asked!!! my question would have been : "Is it wise to cut support for mental health services at a time of such instability?" which I think is very relevant. 1/4 people will have a mental health problem in their life, and everyone needs to be aware that they have mental (as well as physical) health.. I did manage to have a bit of input towards the end of the program about 55 mins in so do watch again if you are interested.

Happy 2010

2009 was my busiest year, both in terms of Guitar teaching, starting a DTLLS course at Oxford Brookes, and also in my own music playing various gigs and festivals both acoustic and with the follys (we recorded and released Maps to Nowhere, which received great reviews around Oxford as well), Also the most flattering thing was receiving an award from Oxfordshire MIND at their AGM in November. I'm looking forward to continuing everything in 2010, thank you for your support and a Happy New Year

So Strong video

song used for Children's Hospital of Michigan

The song "Happy Happy Birthday" (written as a commission for a friends birthday), is being used to raise funds at the U.S. Hospital which helps children and gives them a chance to celebrate their birthdays year after year. you can hear the track on the myspace page. dec 2009

You Tube video of the event
walk to houses of parliment to campaign against climate change, and what should be done to prevent it.. the blue 'wave' is symbolic (I think) of a flood of water if (or indeed when) the ice caps melt.
the event is taking place 5th Dec 2009, more info at www.the-wave.org.uk

MIND Award

It was flattering to be acknowledged at yesterdays AGM for Oxfordshire MIND for my contribution in terms of fundraising and raising awareness on the Radio, digital media and through songs and also a mention to how valuable the music workshops I ran have been to other service users. I said that MIND had done a lot for me when I was unwell and it was great to still work with them in some way. Also I said perhaps more people who have been through difficult times and come through them should still keep in touch with the charity and support it, and also use their voice to stop the stigma which is so often associated. 25 Nov 2009

online music shop

A number of people keep asking where is the best place to buy music books, and if you don't live near a local music shop www.musicroom.com I have found to be a very good and helpful online service. Most music shops will order books for you as well if you ask

Cornerstone Arts Centre

I've been asked to do a workshop or two at Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot next half term, I'm told there are lots of budding guitarist there! Also from january there are a few new places on both beginner and improver Adult learning courses in Grove and Wantage, please do book in early to avoid dissapointment

Next week I start on my DTLLS course.. so teacher Trev here I come!

Workshops, Goodbye ITHACA

Just a sad note that ITHACA is set to close this month. ITHACA were a charity who I worked for a few different projects and who have done great art and dissabilty related work with many people since 1982. It was a pleasure working for ITHACA and I have very fond memories and wish everyone there all the very best

I created a little time to do a one off music workshop in MIND in Wantage, keep in touch with the centre for the date, I also plan to do one at Root and Branch in Watchfield soon as well.
I have also been asked to give a performance/talk in a primary school in Oxford for an english writing project on music and songwriting which is a bit different
