Seaside Experiences
I wonder what experiences you will have at your imaginary seaside. In case you need ideas, here’s a list of possibilities:
- Breathe in the fresh sea air. Feel the breeze and smell the salt and a hint of seaweed.
- A helter-skelter slide
- Wheelchairs will be fine on the sand – we’ve borrowed special ‘sandwheels’ to attach, which make the wheels very wide (designed by Remap. Unit D9, Chaucer Business Park, Kemsing, Sevenoaks, TN15 6YU, tel: 0845 1300 456)
- Beach ball
- Pick up some dry sand in your hands and let it run through your fingers
- The sun is lovely and warm on your skin
- On the pier are slot machines, people fishing, and a telescope. You can see some boats on the horizon, including one with a sail. On the top of the cliffs you can see some people walking a dog.
- Do we dare go topless?!
- A rock pool with lots of interesting wildlife – including a crab, a starfish, barnacles and some seaweed.
- Making a sandcastle, perhaps with a moat for the sea to fill
- Beach cricket
- Punch and Judy
- The sand here is very easy to mould. As you wriggle your body it creates a perfectly supportive bed and you are able to relax completely. Lying on your back you can see the vast sky – with light wispy cirrus clouds against the blue. It is so peaceful.
- Some people swim, or paddle and others jump the waves. You might like to use the dinghy, the boogie board or even have a go at surfing.
- There’s a man asleep in a deck chair with a knotted hanky on his head.
- Pick up a pebble. Feel its coolness and how it has been worn smooth by the sea. Look – there’s another one with a hole right the way through. And here is a fossil!
- A fairground
- There are some beautiful shells here
- Sandy sandwiches
- Here’s a horse – would you like a ride?
- Gulls call and you can hear the waves and children playing – the sounds of the seaside. There are other birds too. If you have a bird book you may be able to identify them.
- Partway through the day there is a little refreshing rain. You watch the raindrops in the rock pools and feel them fall gently on your head.
- A colourful row of beach huts.
